Gardens of England & Hampton Court Flower Show July 2 –14, 2011

Join us on yet another unique exploration of the English countryside during the
profusion of English summer bloom. You’ll spend a day at the Hampton Court
Flower Show, visit charming cottage gardens, and meet real English gardeners.

Day 1- Independent arrival at London Heathrow - Welcome to merry olde
England! Upon arrival in London, we travel to the university city of Oxford and
take part in a walking tour of some of the less often visited colleges.  This
afternoon we could visit either Blenheim Palace (www.blenheimpalace.org),
energy levels permitting, or a small privately owned garden opening as part of
the National Garden Scheme. This evening, a reception and dinner to celebrate
Independence Day. (B)

Day 2 - Today we journey into the lovely countryside of the Cotswolds, for a visit
to the romantic Sudeley Castle (www.sudeleycastle.co.uk), and then to
Coughton Court (www.coughtoncourt.co.uk) which will look lovely at this time
of the year. We spend three nights at one of the charming Cotswolds Inns hotels
which will allow us to further explore this verdant area.  (B,D)

Day 3 – Two sensational gardens, linked by a short and pleasant walk, firstly
the famous garden at Hidcote Manor (www.nationaltrust.org.uk) and then the
privately owned and 2003 winner at Kiftsgate Court (www.kiftsgate.co.uk). (B,D)

Day 4 - On the way to Bath, a stroll in the charming market town of Chipping
Campden  followed  by a visit to the award winning Bourton House (www.
bourtonhouse.com) .  Before reaching Bath, enjoy English Afternoon Tea in the
elegant surroundings of Barnsley House, the 1988 winner, and now a very fine
hotel (www.barnsleyhousehotel.co.uk)

Bath is filled with historical and literary appeal. Bath was known to the
Romans as Aquae Sulis and eased their rheumatism in the mineral springs.
Jane Austin fans immortalized Bath as the goal of her socially aspiring
characters. Acquaint yourself with this beautiful city on an optional tour that
highlights the historical, literary and architectural details to be enjoyed.
Overnight Bath. (B)

Day 5 – Heading back to London an out of hours visit to the Italian-style Peto
Garden at Iford Manor (www.ifordmanor.co.uk) and 1998 winners.  Pausing for
a stroll around the ancient stone circle at Avebury, into the capital for a free
evening (B)

Day 6 – A full day at the 2009 Hampton Court Flower Show and a final evening
at the theatre completes our time in England.  (B)
